Story and Inspiration
In this painting, a lone cowboy kneels on rocky ground, his posture humble and unguarded, before a towering white cross. The cross stands strong and luminous against the earth— Life Church’s iconic cross in Edmond, Oklahoma, a place known around the world for faith, community, and quiet surrender. Though it is the largest church in the world, this moment is deeply personal, intimate, and still. The cowboy wears a white hat and white shirt, symbols of forgiveness, grace, and redemption. These whites are not loud—they are gentle, steady reminders that grace is always present, waiting patiently for us to ask, to receive, and to begin again. His blue jeans root him in the everyday world, reminding us that faith is not reserved for perfection, but for real people living real lives. The earth beneath him is rocky and uneven, painted in warm western earth tones through my signature impressionistic style. It reflects the truth of the human journey—hard places, uncertain footing, seasons of struggle. Yet even here, on rugged ground, surrender happens. Prayer happens. Hope happens. This painting leans more traditional western in spirit, honoring strength through humility. The cowboy does not stand tall in pride—he kneels in reverence. His bowed posture tells a quiet but powerful story: that true strength is found not in control, but in trust. The large white cross rises above him, unwavering and eternal. It represents a love that does not move when we falter. A grace that does not expire. A forgiveness that meets us exactly where we are. This is a painting about coming home—spiritually, emotionally, and faithfully. About laying down burdens at the foot of the cross. About remembering that no matter how rough the terrain, grace is always there, steady and waiting.
Matthew 11:28–30 (NIV)
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.”
